Shipping to a Dealer: California law mandates that ammunition purchased online must be shipped to a licensed ammunition dealer, not directly to the buyer's residence. Background Checks: All ammunition purchases in California, regardless of the purchase method, require a background check through the California Department of Justice (DOJ). Dealer Pickup: Once the ammunition arrives at the licensed dealer, the buyer must go to the dealer with a valid photo ID to complete the purchase and pick up the ammunition.
